ICDL Germany honoured the vocational school at the SRH vocational training center Neckargemünd with the ICDL School Award 2023. The award was given in recognition of the school’s commitment to the informatics education of trainees with special needs and its outstanding performance in conducting a total of almost 10,000 ICDL tests, including about 3,000 in the difficult times of the Corona pandemic. The presentation of the award took place on 8th March in the framework of Didacta with the participation of the State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Sandra Boser.
“From e-learning offers for people with physical or mental restrictions, to offers for vocational preparation and a completely barrier-free house. The vocational school at SRH vocational training center Neckargemünd has an above-average commitment to students with special needs. The ICDL School Award is therefore absolutely deserved. In recent years, especially during the difficult times of the Corona pandemic, the school has been particularly committed to the informatics education of students with special needs and has shown an impressive commitment,” explains Thomas Michel, CEO ICDL Germany.
Ulf Kager, head of the vocational school, explains what this means on the ground: “We train specialists in around 40 modern STEM and business/administration professions. Central to this is the consistent focus on competencies and the question of which future competencies our trainees will develop in order to act as independent, confident personalities in the working world and shape their lives. As a UNESCO project school, we are also committed to these goals. The digital transformation of the economy and society is fundamentally changing how we learn, work and communicate – so who wouldn’t count digital competencies among the competencies of the future?
The ICDL provides a very good basic qualification here that our trainees can build on. I am pleased that our work is being recognized in this context.”
Thomas Michel continued: “With almost 10,000 ICDL tests taken, including around 3,000 in 2020-2022, the school has shown that it offers its students the best possible opportunities to prepare for the digital world. In particular, the school has addressed the needs and abilities of students with special needs, enabling them to participate in the digital society.
The ICDL School Award recognises the school’s achievements and commitment to students with special needs. The school has shown that it supports its students not only in their professional education, but also in their personal development and social environment.
