Congratulations to St Mary’s Secondary School in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, who are the winners of this year’s ICDL Ireland schools competition.
Special mentions also go to Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in Dingle, Co. Kerry and Loreto Letterkenny Secondary School in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal for their entries.
Entries for the competition were received from across Ireland from a range of schools that offer ICDL. Schools were invited to share their story of how their students have put their ICDL digital skills to good use through a community initiative, school project or extra curricular project.
ICDL Ireland school’s competition winner: St Mary’s Secondary School, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary
The winning school told a remarkable story of how their transition year students used the digital skills learnt through ICDL to fundraise for cancer.
The transition year students collaborated with first year students to help a cause close to their hearts. A fellow first year student went through treatment for cancer and the two year groups worked closely together to fundraise for Daisy Lodge.
The range of modules available in the ICDL Profile Pack enabled students to deliver the initiative. Project Planning was fundamental in helping the transition year students to plan and schedule the fundraising fun day.
They also used their skills from application modules such as Documents and Presentation to put together activities that all students could take part in to raise the all-important funds for charity.
The project was also an important instrument in bringing students together after having to work apart during the pandemic.
Sharon Mc Allister, ICDL coordinator for St Mary’s Secondary School said, “After the last two years without class group activities amongst other classes, it was great to see TY students mix so well with the first years and enjoy every minute out of the classroom.”
Congratulations again to St Mary’s Secondary School transition year students who worked hard to raise €770 for Daisy Lodge through their well-planned and organised fundraising day. What an achievement and a great application of ICDL skills to make a difference.
St Mary’s Secondary School will receive their digital certificate detailing their achievement and the prize of a GoPro HERO 10 camera.

A special mention goes to Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne for their 1-2-1 Digital project where transition year students used their ICDL skills to help the older generation develop essential skills in using technology.
Loreto Letterkenny Secondary School, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
A special mention also goes to Loreto Letterkenny Secondary School whose students made great strides in becoming more confident in their presentation skills and digital capabilities through ICDL. ICDL has equipped the students with skills to prepare them for the digital workplace and a greater awareness of the scope of technology.
Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne and Loreto Letterkenny Secondary School will both receive a digital certificate detailing their achievement.
